They are not only looking for competitive products; they want a lender that understands the sector, their customers, and the importance of providing clarity, consistency, and better service,\u201d Azzopardi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that broker feedback on the pilot had been \u201coverwhelmingly positive\u201d, underscoring Brighten\u2019s emphasis on being easy to deal with throughout the application and post\u2011settlement process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brighten has been expanding its presence across aggregator panels, positioning the reverse mortgage offer as part of a broader growth strategy in specialist lending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Dedicated reverse mortgage team and product features<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brokernews.com.au\/news\/breaking-news\/brighten-taps-heartland-alum-as-demand-for-reverse-mortgages-grows-288907.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The lender last year appointed industry figure Sharon Yardley as head of reverse mortgages<\/a>&nbsp;and has since built a specialist team to work with brokers from initial enquiry through to post\u2011settlement support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith Brighten, brokers deal directly with a specialist team that understands the demographic, the credit nuances of the product and how these loans are used day\u2011to\u2011day,\u201d Yardley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The product range \u2013 Brighten Life and Brighten Life Plus \u2013 allows eligible homeowners aged 55 and over to access home equity via flexible facilities, with no regular monthly repayments and progressive drawdown options. Yardley said that combination of structure, pricing, and service aligns with what brokers are seeking in the segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Growing equity pool and advice gap<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Brighten pointed to industry research indicating a substantial pool of untapped home equity among older Australians.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brokernews.com.au\/news\/breaking-news\/deloitte-flags-600bn-reverse-mortgage-gap-for-brokers-289018.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Deloitte\u2019s 2026 Australian Reverse Mortgage Survey<\/a>&nbsp;estimate Australians aged 60 and over hold about $3 trillion in home equity, of which around $600bn could realistically be accessed through equity\u2011release products, yet reverse mortgages currently tap only about 1% of that capacity \u2013 highlighting a large, under\u2011served opportunity for brokers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another analysis has also highlighted a shift in demand, with&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.brokernews.com.au\/news\/breaking-news\/younger-retirees-drive-surge-in-reverse-mortgage-demand-289256.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">younger retirees in their 60s increasingly driving reverse mortgage growth<\/a>&nbsp;as they look to supplement retirement income or consolidate existing debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ageing in place is also a key preference, with research cited by the Actuaries Institute showing more than 80% of Australians aged 65 to 74 continue to live in their own home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor many older Australians, the family home is their largest asset. Reverse mortgages can provide a practical way to access that equity while continuing to live in the home and community they know,\u201d Yardley
