As part of our commitment to combatting climate change, for every home loan we settle, Brighten will support Carbon Neutral to plant a tree in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.
With the goal to restore landscapes and reproduce natural ecosystems, the Plant-a-Tree program forms an integral part of the award-winning Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor reforestation project. It not only has a positive impact on climate change but also directly contributes to the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development.
Carbon Neutral’s Plant-a-Tree Program helps to restore one of 36 global biodiversity hotspots in the world recognised by Conservation International. Trees and shrubs indigenous to the region are planted to reconnect areas of remnant vegetation.
A biodiversity hotspot is a region that has high percentage of endemic plant species and 30% or less of its natural vegetation remaining. Hotspots are irreplaceable, preserving them secures our global biodiversity.
The trees planted are Australian native tree or shrub species in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor located in the northern wheatbelt of Southwest Australia, a 200km long green corridor from inland all the way to the coast, reconnecting remnant vegetation with 12 nature reserves across a 10,000km2 area.
Ecosystems are created through the establishment of green corridors, encouraging endangered wildlife to return to the area while at the same time removing carbon from the atmosphere.
All trees planted are legally protected for 100 years – long after your home loan is paid off – by a Carbon Covenant and Carbon Right registered with the WA state government on the land title.
This ensures the trees cannot be removed or compromised, even if the land is sold.
Carbon Neutral drives action in society and empower business and individuals with solutions to help create a more sustainable planet for future generations.
Carbon Neutral has developed and manage the largest biodiverse reforestation ‘carbon sink’ in Australia. Since 2008, Carbon Neutral has established 14,000 hectares on mostly unproductive and degraded farmlands and has planted more than 30 million trees.
